Tanki Online Turrets - Railgun
Railgun is probably my favourite weapon on Tanki Online. Railgun is a truly versatile turret which is ideal for both snipers who have a liking for killing enemies from cover at long distance distance and more active and attacking players who want to roam a lot over the battlefield in search of their next victim. I would think that Railgun is likely to beat just about any other gun in a one on one battle, if used well and in small battles on medium to large maps can be devastating.
Just about all clan battles are fought using Railguns, and if you watch the Clan tournaments via the Tanki Online website, Railgun is just about the only gun you will see in action. The tanki website guide for Railgun suggests that it is not the best choice of weapon for trying to catch the enemy flag in CTF battles, but in the lower rank games, it is a perfectly viable option and I have used it many time in this way.
One of the down-sides of Railgun is the time it actually takes to fire off a shot. From the moment you press the space bar to fire, it takes just over one second to actually fire, it is then some time before you can let off another shot.
On the plus side, it performs well at any range, even extreme distances and packs a hefty punch. When using this turret with a Wasp hull, the recoil could potentially flip your tank over, so you need to add weight to the hull to counter-balance this.

Tactics and tips when using Railgun
- When using Railgun, you will at some point come in to close contact with a Thunder player and there is little chance of escape unless you can destroy it with your first shot. Unless you know for certain you can run and hide, drive right up to the Thunder tank and face the consequences. The reason behind this seemingly crazy idea is that Thunder can damage itself if it shoots at a target that too close. When it shoots you, it will either self destruct or at worst inflict considerable damage to its own hull.
- Try to adopt a "shoot and hide policy wherever possible". Hide behind anything that offers cover from enemy fire, move out, take aim and fire as quickly as possible, then go back in to hiding. This is a deadly tactic and near impossible to play against for most players.
- When hiding behind buildings, change your view to that of a bird. Using the [ and ] keys, or Page Up and Page Down keys to change the angle of view. By getting a bird's eye view, you can still see where enemy tanks are and which one's you can take aim at.
- When hiding from another Railgun player and you can still partially see each other, feign a move forward as if you were coming out of hiding to shoot. The other player will often load their Railgun and shoot, thinking they are going to hit you. Once they have fired, you now have time to come out of hiding and shoot without taking a shot in return.
