As with a number of worldwide celebrations, Tanki Online had a special map made for New Year 2106. It was set in an small town comprising of Tudor style houses, one flag and a point to run the flag to. I have to be clear at this point - I did not like it very much and found it incredibly hard going on the occasions I played on it.
The aim of each battle was for the red team to run the flag in to the blue team base and plant the flag on a small plinth in the middle. Straight forward enough you would have thought but the reality was very different, in part due to the positioning of the supplies that dropped from the sky.
In addition to the direct route between the two bases, there was also another route on either side of the battlefield, but again a well-placed Shaft or Railgun could deal a deadly blow before the flag was taken very far from the base.
The red team base on a raised section of land have four speed boosts surrounding the flag with two double damage boosters nearby. The blue team base had two repair kits to the rear of the base and four double armour boosters. Between the two bases were a further four double damage, and one double armour booster. I am sure it was not intended to be an unbalanced battle but from what I saw, that is exactly how it turned out. The blue team, in nearly every case had the upper hand and would often invade and dominate the red team base.

I have discussed this with a few other Tanki players and the feedback seems to be the same from them, with a unanimous verdict of a very imbalanced battle. One of the big problems with the design of this map was that a Shaft player in the blue team could aim directly at the red team flag position. This meant as soon as the flag was picked up by a red team player, he would be destroyed with a single shot, making it so hard to even get the flag off the base at times.
I did have some success at times but more often than not, more so when playing in the red team, so it was not all doom and gloom but even with a fairly powerful Ricochet turret I found it hard going far too many times. I did come first in one battle, with the blue team (who won the battle once more) although this was not a full compliment of players, although even in numbers.

Hopefully next year will see a different map and not the return of this one but perhaps that may come down to what sort of feedback Tanki Online gets from a wider range of players.
