Most Tanki Online players chase the Gold Box when it appears during a game. The Gold Box, normally worth 1000 crystals, is dropped on every map although not in every game, and appears to be totally random. The actual location of the drop on each map varies too so there is never any certainty about the location of the Gold Box drop or indeed if there will be one during your game.
If you read the various chats withing Tanki Online you will see quite a bit of talk about Gold Boxes, most of which are just nonsense. Let me out a few myths to bed right here, right now... Tanki Online - Gold Boxes
Where are the Gold Box Drop Zones? All maps on Tanki Online have multiple drop zones and there are maps on the internet which will give you an idea of where they might fall, but as there are so many drop zones, it is near impossible to guess where they will land. All you can do is wait for the siren to sound and the message that the Gold Box will be dropped soon. You then have about 20 seconds to find the marker on the ground and hope that no other players find it until it is too late. This can be done on larger maps but the smaller maps are mayhem as everyone can see where it is going to fall, as it floats down form the clouds. The drop zone marker, when it appears on the ground, is a white hatched-line square box with a yellow diamond inside. The markers are just big enough to show outside the width of any tank hull, so not even the biggest hull can totally conceal it's presence.
How do you catch the Gold Boxes? There are many different tactics to grabbing the Gold Box and the competition is savage at times, and more often than not followed by a mass battle until only one or two players survive. Small and lightweigth tanks can sometimes climb over the bigger, bulky tanks with a speed boost, Tanks with long turrets such as Railgun and Thunder can sometimes gain a height advantage over others by climbing over other tanks. If the drop zone is near an elevated section of map, it may be possible to jump off the raised section and snatch the box mid-air before it reaches the mass of tanks below.
If you get really luck, even on fairly small maps you may find the marker before anyone else. In this case it is best to not draw attention to yourself by standing still, keep moving a little then make your way back but be prepared to destroy a tank or two to grab the gold box. Sometimes, somewhat annoying, some players have little or no interest in going for the gold box and will simply carry on their normal game. It is something you just have to put up with but I do wish they would leave those that do want to fight for the gold box to get on with it. In the picture above I found the marker on the road on the Cologne map during a Death Match battle. The road was clear when I first saw the box so I moved on about 30m or so, turned round and made my way back. On the right of the picture, under the 'chat' you can just make out another tank. Thankfully they never fired a shot and chose to try to out-muscle me to get the gold box - they failed and I was 1000 crystals better off.
