How to be a good team playerWhile Tanki team modes such as Catch the Flag, Control Points and Team Death Match is a collection of voluntary individuals, the emphasis is being part of a team. I have seen so many players on Tanki that just have no concept of what team play involves and play as though they were in a Death match battle. For someone like me who has some years real life experience of working both in teams and as a team leader it is incredible frustrating to see so many individuals, and often quite annoying. It is mostly silly little things but they all add up to the detriment of the team as an effective unit and fighting force. There is a time in future months where I will probably consider creating a new clan where I will have certain expectations of my team members and I would like to think that most clans operate in a similar way. In a nutshell, the following is what I expect as a team player, and a code that adopt every time I play a team game on Tanki Online. It is unrealistic in most standard catch the flag battles but if you can adopt the following principles, you could be asset to a clan one day. First and foremost think about the team at all times. The team is far more important than any individual, regardless of how good they might be, or think they are. Many players who are of a very good standard start to project the impression that they love themselves, and you can see this by the way they play in battles. They are very cocky and think they are the best and often do not play as a team member, perhaps in the belief that they are better than all the others and they are the only one who can impact the game. In catch the flag mode, the flag is not the property of any individual and the team share responsibility in catching the opponents flag. Players should not fight over who takes the next flag. Some players think that they have a given right to catch the flag and no other team mate is allowed to. I truly dislike these people who are the epitome of selfishness. You will sometimes see two or more players pushing each other out of the way to get to the flag, even blocking another player who has taken the flag. Team players should assist the player that has taken the enemy flag in every way they possibly can. This involves everything from clearing the route back to home base, destroying enemy tanks, leaving boosters for the flag carrier to collect, to literally throwing their tank in the way of an enemy tank to prevent them shooting the flag carrier. If you are travelling head on to a member of your team who has the flag, get out of their way and let them through. This especially important in narrow parts of the battlefield. Isida players can make a big difference. Ideally each team has at least one Isida tank and on large map, two or three of them. Isida player should act as an emergency medical team as well as a killer tank. Top up the health of all team members whenever and wherever you can without putting yourself at risk except when a team member if carrying the flag. Under these circumstances you should be prepared to be destroyed to save the other player's tank. Do not collect boosters unless you really need them. This applies to general play and not just when a team member has the flag. If you have an Isida player or two in your team, and they are performing their role as a medic, do not collect the repair kits unless you absolutely must. Isida's need them as well, and their need is often greater than yours. If you and a team member are both converging on a repair kit, make way for them if your health level is higher than theirs. Use the in-game chat facility to talk tactics and co-ordinate the team. As well as a social tool, the in-game chat facility is a fantastic way to co-ordinate attacks and defensive strategies, providing all players in your team use it. Sadly this is not always the case but there are times when enough players in one team are reading the chat and will respond accordingly. This can be a game changer if used correctly. I remember very well a 15-minute Control Points battle on Future. I joined where the team I joined were losing by 54 to 30 and what I noticed almost immediately is that the opposing team were reliant on three points to protect there lead but my team were not organised in any way to overcome this. I used the chat to tell all the team to go to one of the points that was controlled by the opposition and take it. To my surprise six tanks converged on that point and took control. I then told two to stay there while the rest of us went to take over another point, the one that was more heavily guarded. We all went, destroyed the enemy and took control. We went on to win the battle by 100 to 89 and only because enough players were using the chat feature. |
